Population growth is directly linked to a series of social and urban challenges, and among these challenges, one of the most concerning is the increase in violence, which can be driven by factors such as social inequality, resource scarcity, and, mainly, the lack of adequate infrastructure. In light of this, this study seeks to examine security solutions in smart cities by investigating academic and technical publications from various sources, such as articles, journals, conferences, and reports, to understand the main areas of interest and to learn how the computational solutions already implemented can provide valuable insights for the formulation of public safety policies. In this way, existing security solutions were analyzed that demonstrated the benefits generated by their application and that can be used to improve security in cities, providing a basis for future work and for the creation of more effective strategic actions in the context of smart and safe cities.
