The study carried out in the coastal municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante, in Ceará, Brazil, used the "Coastal Risk Assessment Framework" (CRAF) methodology, developed by Van Dongeren et al. (2018) in the RISC-KIT project, and based on the Coastal Vulnerability Index (Gornitz et al., 1994). CRAF, applied in places such as the north and northwest coast of Italy, the Catalan coast in Spain and the north of England, seeks to map coastal sensitivity, assess risks and identify priority areas for adaptation and coastal management actions. The methodology involved the analysis of demographic and environmental data, crossing variables such as population density, land use and flood risks. The results indicated a low coastal risk rating for the region, with areas of lower vulnerability identified mainly due to the presence of healthy coastal ecosystems and a lower concentration of critical infrastructure. It was found that there is no immediate need to move on to a more detailed analysis (Step 2), justifying the decision based on the conclusion of Step 1. The simplicity and effectiveness of the methodology adopted demonstrate its usefulness for future assessments in other coastal regions.
