Abstract

In this article it is discussedlarge-scale mining, the integration of Goiásinto extractive global networks and territorial implications in the different forms of organization of life and work in the agrarian spaceof Goiás. In addition, it is arguedelements that approach the relationshipbetween mining and agrarian spaceproviding a critical geographic reflection on this extractive sector. The methodology appliedin the research relied on data collection techniques and qualitative and quantitative information, illustrated in tables and maps. In addition to the introduction, the first part of thisarticle demonstrates the functionof mining in the process of integrating Goiás into global extractive networks in the context of a commodity boom. In the second part, it is evident that theexpansion of the mineral extractive sector establishednew scales of appropriation and control of the subsoil, especiallymining interests in placestraditionally occupied by quilombolas, settled peasants and squatters. Finally, the final considerations underline debates that point to the need to radically transform the mining standardin actionin Brasil and in Goiás.
