Literatura, História e Memória no Contexto Pós-Colonial
Resumo
Resumo: Este ensaio problematiza a relação entre literatura, história e memória num contexto pós-colonial com base na seguinte pergunta: sobre quais premissas trabalha e funciona o lugar mnemônico chamado literatura? Nesse processo, a análise focaliza a ligação entre a memória, a imaginação e o espaço na (re)construção identitária. Inscrito no presente, o passado hifeniza os signos da historiografia dominante e assim é um dos meios que fornece o terreno para uma articulação da diferença cultural. A Mercy, o mais recente romance da escritora norteamericana Toni Morrison, serve como exemplo analítico para este ensaio.
Abstract:This essay problematizes the link between literature, history, and memory in a postcolonial context. With the objective to demonstrate how the mnemonic site called literature operates, the analysis focuses on the role of memory, imagination and place in the (re)construction of identity. Inscribed in the present, the past hyphenates the signs of the dominant historiography and thus furnishes the terrain for the articulation of cultural difference. A Mercy, the most recent novel of North American writer Toni Morrison, serves as analytical example of this essay.
