This study aims to determine the influence of fixed rip currents on the contamination of urban beaches with solid waste. Four areas along the beach were selected based on the presence or absence of rip currents. A criterion for identifying waste larger than 3 cm, regardless of composition, was adopted. The nearshore circulation mechanism at Boa Viagem Beach strongly influenced the pattern of solid waste distribution in the study area. Higher amounts of these residues were observed north of the rip currents. The results showed that longitudinal currents, wind strength, and wind direction strongly influenced the solid waste deposition pattern on Boa Viagem Beach.
