Occurrence of larvae of bivalves and gastropods in the euhaline sector of the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex – Paraná, Brazil

The occurrence of gastropods and bivalves larvae was studied in the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex (PEC). Plankton samples were collected in two replicates inMel Island, Galheta Chanel (Point I) and in the outlet of Rio Maciel's Gamboa (Ponto II). The samples were collected through oblique tows in the winter/2011 and summer /2012. The biological material was analyzed at the laboratory with a stereoscopic microscope and the larvae quantified in the total sample. The presence of larvae in the summer/winter period observed in the results indicates a spawning of the organisms along the year and a possible larval retention due to the occurrence of larvae in the spawning and/or adult recruitment locations.References
