LEITURAS DO ISLÃ: O FUNDAMENTO DA LETRA EM AL-ANDALUS

O Estudo da história árabe e de sua influência sobre a formação da Europa tem sido alvo de constantes debates. Entretanto, apesar da presença de uma importância cada vez mais levada em consideração, o Islã ainda figura, entre os estudos medievais, como o grande Outro. Esta tônica, como alerta Edward Said em sua obra Orientalismo, cria uma imagem distorcida do Oriente. Ele não seria por si só – seus matizes se dariam como um contraste com o Ocidente. Em última instância, há de fato dois Ocidentes: Um Real e um Projetado. Ao projetar o Islã como agente de sua própria história, sofrendo também mudanças, percebemos muito deste dito Oriente na História ocidental. Como em um espelho, existe muito mais que o simples reflexo.

Abstract
The study of Arab history and its influence on the formation of Europe has been the subject to constant debate. However, despite its increasing importance, Islam still figures, among medieval studies, as the great Other. This state of affairs, as Edward Said pointed out in his book Orientalism, creates a distorted image of the East. It would not be by itself – its features would be painted in contrast to the West. Ultimately, there are in fact two Wests: one Real and one Projected. Upon projecting Islam as agent of its own history, also undergoing changes, we realize that there is much of this so-called East in Western History. As in a mirror, there is much more than the simple reflex.
