Missionários portugueses na China (séculos XVI–XIX) e os primeiros estudos sinológicos

Este artigo examina a presença dos missionários portugueses na China entre os séculos XVI e XIX e seu papel fundamental na formação dos primeiros estudos sinológicos no Ocidente. Através da evangelização e da introdução de conhecimentos científicos, os missionários portugueses estabeleceram pontes entre a cultura europeia e a tradição intelectual chinesa. Figuras como Félix da Rocha e José de Espinha desempenharam papéis significativos na astronomia e na cartografia imperial, contribuindo para o intercâmbio de saberes entre Portugal e a China. Além disso, a pesquisa aborda o desenvolvimento inicial da sinologia, destacando como os missionários europeus foram pioneiros na documentação da cultura e da língua chinesas, influenciando a percepção ocidental da China.
