Abstract

This integrated study of satellite imagery data (SRTM), aerogeophysical data (gamma spectrometry and magnetometry), geological maps, and field investigations were used to enhance the geological understanding of the São Domingos do Cariri region, located within the Alto Moxotó Terrane, Borborema Province. Mafic and ultramafic rocks and sequences of ortho- and paragneisses were identified and mapped. They are commonly deformed by
regional structures in which the related markers reflect a complex deformational history. Structural analysis revealed deformation phases associated with both ductile and brittle
regimes, with the main fabric associated to low- to high angle foliation planes, migmatites with sheared neosomes, and mylonitic corridors related to the Serra Preta and Boa Vista-Cabaceiras shear zones, in addition to late-stage structures such as faults and fractures oriented in the NW–SE and NE–SW directions. Kinematic indicators such as sigma-type porphyroclasts and S-C and S-C-C' surfaces indicate sinistral kinematics along these structures, while in the southeastern part of the area, mylonitic structures associated with the Coxixola Shear Zone point to dextral movements. The integration of structural and petrographic data suggests a context of reworking of pre-Neoproterozoic crust, consistent with the tectonic processes described for the central portion of the Borborema Province.
