Global Sociology in a World in Crisis: interview with Geoffrey Pleyers

In this interview, Pleyers seeks to explore the relationship between the sociology of social movements and general sociology. He shows that this practical reading of general sociology helps overcome the tendencies toward hyperspecialization and highlights the importance of movements as producers of society. Pleyers explains that the relationship between social change and crisis is not simple, requiring a complex understanding of institutions and politics. Sociology is, therefore, important for creating pathways out of the current pessimistic scenarios, and the ISA, of which he is president, plays a central role in mobilizing the international sociology community to reflect on these alternatives, which now necessarily involve consideration of the digital realm.
