Abstract

This article revisits Radcliffe-Brown’s work, The Andaman Islanders, considering its centenary. The objective is to present the theoretical--methodological innovations of this monograph for Social Anthropology but also to demonstrate the author’s intellectual maturity. The text indica- tes the academic trajectory of the author, highlighting his university inser- tion, theoretical influences, fieldwork in the Bay of Bengal, and professio- nal experiences in various academic centers. In the end, the monographic reaffirms its value as a classic work.

Author Biographies

Bruno Ferraz Bartel, Doutor em Antropologia pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF); Professor do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia da Universidade Federal do Piauí (PPGAnt/UFPI).

Integrante do Instituto de Estudos Comparados em Administração Institucional de Conflitos (INCT-InEAC). Membro dos seguintes Grupos de Pesquisa: Núcleo de Estudos do Oriente Médio (NEOM) e Antropologia Política e Conflitos: pesquisas empíricas sobre burocracias, religiões e mobilizações sociais. Pesquisador colaborador do Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA - Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) e do Centro de Estudios de Diversidad Religiosa y Sociedad (Universidade Nacional de Rosário). Realizou pesquisas etnográficas sobre as ambiguidades dos gênios (2012), as controvérsias do culto aos santos (2014) e as renovações do sufismo (2016/2017) no Marrocos. Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: Ritual e Simbolismo (performance e subjetivação) e Antropologia da Religião (Islã).
