On the Reality of Collaboration in Collaborative Methodologies in Anthropology

Although from the 1990’s some anthropologies innovate colla-borative methodologies with principles such as mutuality, reciprocity and negotiation in every single phase of their project, structural methodological problems endure: the reduction of the projects to their situational actions or products; the ambiguity and diversity of engagement among collabora-tors; the institutional, political and ideological insertions of the projects; the involved communities’ consent; the methodological islanding because of the singularization of their endeavors. If we admit that the politization of data regards every dimension of our practice, we need to focus their political nature and sustainability. Analyzing relational, epistemological and methodological bordering practices, created and legitimated by colla-borators, can lead to open-ended methodologies as designed by the STS. The aim here is to focus on interconnected questions: the uncoupling of politics and policy; the exit of eurocentric critique from eurocentrism; the restitution of the methological status to othering ontologies that invest our fieldworks.
