Obrigações de Axé

Abstract

Obligations of Axé is a video ethnography filmed at the Ilé Asè Dàn Fè Érò Ósumarè. The participating-camera (Rouch, 1995:96 apud Hikiji, 2013 pp. 121) is incorporated into a ceremony with three rituals. The Departure of Iawo from Yago from Odé, the Three-Year Bond (Odu Eta) from Carmen de Oya and the Seven-Year Bond (Odu Ije) from the Ìyálàsé Dáfne from Iewá. The film aims to contribute to the visibility and dissemination of Brazilian Candomblé Ketu, located in the city of Goiânia, Goiás. Ashe's Obligations are the commitments assumed by all initiates, which consist of the mechanism of hierarchical ascent in Candomblé. Social relations are defined by the status acquired in the experience with the Egbè (Community) initiated in that Ilè (Candomblé House). The film was subtitled in Spanish to contemplate international communities that follow the development of the research carried out in the Master's Degree Program in the Interdisciplinary in Cultural Performances at the Federal University of Goiás (PPGIPC-UFG). There are research partners who practice the so-called Rules of Orisà from Cuba and Mexico.

The research is in dialogue with productions by Taller Miradas Antropológica from the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS-MX), and is inspired by the Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira International Chair, dealing with themes related to Interethnic Systems (RCO, 1967) in Latin America. In this perspective, we encompass the Orisà cult and Latin American variations, its cultural performances of reafricanization and re-existences. The film was made in partnership with the Laboratório de Pesquisa Olhares Etnográficos (LAPOE) linked to the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UFG and the PPGAS-UFG, being supervised by Professor Gabriel Omar Alvarez. The film made in shared-anthropology has a narration by the participants. The launching table held with the priests and participants whose narrations explain and illustrate the ritual is available on Youtube.
