An ethnography of Church od Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos pretos

Abstract

This essay originates from research conducted under the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC) at the Instituto Federal Institute do Maranhão (IFMA). The study focused on the Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos, built by enslaved individuals in the 18th century. The general objective of the research was to conduct an iconographic analysis of elements within sacred spaces through photographic records, aiming to capture and represent their intrinsic and extrinsic aspects.

As a specific objective, the study sought to simultaneously enhance students' photographic perception and develop their representation techniques, while also fostering awareness of the importance of valuing historical heritage. As a result, students not only acquired technical knowledge but also absorbed sociocultural aspects related to religion, the Black community, and burial practices in churches, contributing to the promotion of both technical and humanistic knowledge.
