The language of the bells and the bell service is an intangible heritage registered by IPHAN (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage), which survives in historic cities, with greater prominence in São João del-Rei due to the persistence and love involved in the transmission of the popular knowledge from generation to generation, promoted by the bellers themselves.
This act, which involves tradition and, above all, preservation, not only in an immaterial but also material way (since the bell is also a mechanical object) is the central theme of this film, which brings testimonies that lead us to reflect on that bell voice, its current context and its future.
This film was part of an anthropological creation process by Thiago de Andrade Morandi, during his master's research in the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Arts, Urbanities and Sustainability. Specifically in this film, space and memory studies, heritage, urban acupuncture, soundscapes and media studies are explored in practice.
