Author Guidelines

JNUOL [JNUOL Scholar.Google / 2018 / h index: 20 ih 10: 194] starting with v.13 i.6 (2019), began to adopt the "rolling publishing" modality, in line with the growing trend of exclusively online journals. This is characterized by the publication in annual volumes, without the numbering of fascicles; therefore, articles will be published as they are approved.

Policy of screening for plagiarism

Papers submitted to Journal of Nursing UFPE on line / JNUOL will be screened for plagiarism using CrossCheck / iThenticate plagiarism detection tools. Apart from that we check with Copyscape for plagiarism JNUOL will immediately reject articles leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

FILE FORMAT

◘ File in Word format, Legal paper size (216 x 357 mm [8.5 x 14 in.]), Trebuchet 12-point font, double space throughout the manuscript, including text, abstract, acknowledgments, references, figure legends, and tables. All pages and lines should be numbered sequentially and as a Word document or as Rich Text (this includes all tables and figures) with standard margins (about 1 inch). Fancy typefaces, italics, underlining, and bolding should not be used.

◘ Title Page/Author Information.  All uploaded manuscript files (e.g., name, institution).

●TITLE/AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY PAGE

◘ Information for the title/biography page should be with author identification in Word file. The information should contain only:

◘ Title of Manuscript

◘ Author(s) names and credentials (highest earned credential only, followed by RN, and certifications. You must include an e-mail address and ORCID at end of your mailing address.

◘ Author(s') Affiliation(s): job title (If more than one author is from the same institution, list job title first, person's name in parentheses, then a comma followed by the next person's job title, etc.), department, institution, city, state.

◘ Corresponding Author. For publication, it is preferable to use a work address. You may include an e-mail address at end of your mailing address.

◘ Funding information and other disclaimer or disclosure information.

● MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

◘ Manuscripts must not exceed 30 pages (excluding abstract, author(s) names and credentials, tables/figures (limited combined total of tables and figures: 5) and references maximum of 30 references).

ABSTRACT (up to 200 words)

Abstract for a research paper: structured abstract of no more than 200 words, with 5 headings - objective, method, results, conclusion and descriptors*.

*6 (six) Descriptors in Portuguese, English and Spanish. To determine the descriptors, refer to the site Descriptors in Health Sciences (DECs) – http://decs.bvs.br/ or MESH – Medical Subject Headings http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html. Define key words if you do not find a corresponding descriptor.

◘ Format (adhering to the format requirements will expedite the review of your submission)

◘ The maximum manuscript length is 30 pages (excluding abstract, author(s) names and credentials, tables figures and references).

Tables (information in 2 or more columns. Limited combined total of tables and figures: 5). Photographs are not acceptable. Type each table, double-spaced throughout (including column headings, footnotes, and data), on a separate page. Tables may be included as part of the Main Body file. Number the tables in sequence in Arabic numerals and supply a concise, informative title for each one. Each column in the tables should carry a concise heading describing the data in the column. Use lowercase superscript letters to designate footnotes, and type the footnotes below the tables to which they refer. Tables are cited in the text in numerical order.

Each table should be able to be understood without consulting the text..

Figures (these include line drawings, diagrams, and graphs graphs/charts with boxes and/or lines, arrows, etc. Limited combined total of figures and tables: 5). Each figure should be numbered. When using figures adapted from another  source, the author must obtain written permission from the original publisher. All figures should be submitted camera-ready.

Photographs: photographs should be color or black-and-white, and of crisp, clear quality. Digital images should be high resolution (at least 300 dpi) and saved in JPEG or TIFF format. Image files should be placed at the manuscript; images embedded in PDF and Power Point® slides are not acceptable. Figures will be printed in black and white only. Figure legends should not be included in the graphic file.

◘ Add page numbers in the upper right hand corner of each page.

◘ Right justify all text, including headings.

◘ Do not indent paragraphs; separate paragraphs with an extra return.

◘ Subdivide the text into main sections by inserting subheads.

◘ All headings go flush right and are distinguish by level as follows:

● First Level Heading (Bold Italic on Separate Line)

● Second Level Heading (Bold Regular on Separate Line)

◘ Put reference numbers in superscript. They should be normal size text, without parentheses.

◘ Do not use endnotes (or similar program) to format your references. Reference numbers in text and the entire reference listing must be in normal type and manually entered. Do not use superscript.

◘ Do not use running headers or footers.

◘ Attach files containing elements of your entire manuscript. The references will follow according to the << Vancouver format >> available at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html. The text must contain a maximum of 30 references, among them, at least one of which should be from the JNUOL.

◘ References are double-spaced and placed at the end of the manuscript file. References are cited consecutively by number and listed in citation order in the reference list. Whenever a reference is repeated in text, it uses the same reference number each time. Journal titles should be abbreviated in the reference listing according to Index Medicus style. If not listed in Index Medicus, journal titles should be spelled out.

With a time to first decision of less than 21 days, Journal’s turnaround time is fastest among its competitors. Time to publication of accepted manuscripts continues to be shortened and the editorial team has a target of 6 months from acceptance to publication.

Publishing Costs

The publishing cost for the author is composed by the Processing Charge and by translation and grammar review costs of the article for publication in two languages.

Submission fee

JNUOL does not charge a submission fee.

Publishing Charge

Articles from institutions outside Brazil pay the Publishing too

Charge.

This fee is requested from the authors after the analysis and approved the article. Manuscript approved to must pay the Processing Charge in the amount of R$ 200.00.

Translations

Translations are requested to the authors after article approval. At this point, the title and abstract must be translated into two more languages: spanish and potuguese. The authors are responsible for the cost of the two translations. To guarantee the quality of the translations, they will only be accepted accompanied by the translation certificate of one of the professional accredited by JNUOL

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

    The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

    Name of the authors and of the author designated as the corresponding author, along with their:

    • E-mail address

    • Full postal address

    • Telephone and fax numbers

    ● Ensure that online submission text files are in a standard word processing format (Word, RTF are preferred).

    Ensure that figure (graphics) are high-resolution. Preferred formats are either TIFF or EPS. Be sure all necessary files have been with data for reproduction by Editor Layout are available.

    All tables are present (including title, description, footnotes).

    Further considerations:

    Ensure your manuscript has been ‘spell checked’.

    All references mentioned in the Reference list must be cited in the text, and vice versa.

    Verify that permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Web).
