PAISAGENS INSULARES NO SEMIÁRIDO DO CEARÁ
Abstract
A partir do descobrimento do Brasil secas na região Nordeste foram sendo rotineiramente registradas. A maior de todas as secas registrada, a chamada “Grande Seca” como identificada àquela transcorrida no período 1877-1879, pereceu mais da metade das pessoas que, à época, residiam na área castigada pelo flagelo. Só no Estado do Ceará morreram 119 mil, em 1878. Como conseqüência dessa tragédia nacional teve início a construção de grandes açudes públicos na região. Essas obras valiosas contribuição proporcionam, oferecendo água para o abastecimento humano, animal dentre outras. Contudo, também trazem prejuízos, sobretudo, para a paisagem. Aqui, é emblemático o processo conhecido por fragmentação da paisagem. Com o término da barragem e o alagamento em curso, os altos topográficos da paisagem que pertencem à área de inundação são isolados. Desse modo, o Homem ao construir açudes fragmenta a paisagem e cria ilhas. Atualmente, o Estado do Ceará detém 130 açudes públicos pouco prováveis de secar e por meio do Projeto Inventário das Ilhas Continentais do Ceará (2006-2010), levantou 822 ilhas artificiais.
