Abstract

O gerenciamento costeiro é um importante instrumento de planejamento ambiental. O histórico apresentado para o município de Ubatuba em SP representa um importante exemplo de amadurecimento e integração de ações e atores para a implantação desse instrumento. Apesar de várias estratégias e a implantação de regras definidoras de uso, o rápido crescimento populacional não impediu a degradação dos recursos, e a pressão antrópica nas áreas que deveriam ser conservadas. Todavia, dentro dessa gestão integrada, observou-se uma lacuna com respeito à aplicação de um dos principais instrumentos do gerenciamento costeiro: o sistema de informação. A disponibilidade da informação geraria um novo quadro participativo, minimizando inclusive a especulação imobiliária sobre as áreas com maiores restrições ambientais, consequentemente minimizando as pressões sobre elas.
