Driven by cotton production and processing at the end of the 19th century, Fortaleza started to have a prominent place in the economy of Ceará. Currently, it has the clothing trade as one of the main economic segments. This article seeks to analyze the informal market through the use and occupation of public spaces, privately, by the clothing trade and the role of the State, as well as the relations between the upper and lower circuits of the urban economy through formal and informal commerce. informal clothing industry, showing the consequences, in the central space of the city, of informal clothing trade. For this, bibliographic and field research was carried out. Among other things, this study showed the problems related to informal clothing trade and the impact on the territory of Ceará and Fortaleza, in particular, portraying the interaction of the Lower Sector with the Superior of the economy represented by the clothing trade at José Avelino's fair and the formalization of part of the market vendors at Centro Fashion. We conclude that the informal and formal clothing trade brings economic and socio-spatial impacts spreading beyond the intra-urban space of Fortaleza, driving the creation of new flows and the urban dynamics through the generated flows.
