Abstract

O presente artigo objetiva entender as transformações territoriais ensejadas na região do Cariri cearense, sul do Estado, na transição do século XIX para o século XX. Momento de ascendência o ocaso do principal movimento de cunho religioso e político da região, a sedição de Juazeiro. Para isso propõe uma periodização para pensar a região seguindo as orientações da teoria da regulação. De acordo com os momentos de crises e estabilidades no processo de desenvolvimento do capitalismo, identifica quatro fases. O período estudado, entre 1889 e 1930, é caracterizado como um momento de transição que reverbera os impactos da decadência da monarquia, tentativa de centralização do Estado com o golpe militar de 1889, o projeto de romanização da igreja católica e os conflitos enredados entre esses e as organizações religiosas populares. Embates que têm como substrato a peleja do Estado pela perpetuação da propriedade concentrada da terra, uma das características mais latentes do desenvolvimento do capitalismo no Brasil.

Graduado em Geografia pela Universidade Regional do Cariri - URCA (2010), espacialista em Geografia e Meio Ambiente pela URCA (2013), mestre em Geografia pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco - UFPE (2016). Professor da Rede Pública de Educação Básica do Estado do Ceará desde 2010.Pesquisa Geografia agrária, com destaque para os seguintes temas: Questão agrária, conflitos territoriais, conflitos envolvendo obras hídricas, comunidades tradicionais, Cariri, educação do campo, grandes projetos, desenvolvimento.
