PROINF, youth and territorial restructuring of family agriculture in Alagoas: initial considerations

The aim of this study is to reflect on the relationship between PROINF and youth in the territorial restructuring of family farming in the Territories of Citizenship (TC’s) of Alagoas. These initial considerations were outlined from bibliographic, documentary and field research. PROINF is configured as a public policy aimed at boosting the production of family farming with the availability of capital for infrastructure and services. The materials inserted in the territories of family farmers by PROINF are technical objects that need technical knowledge for use. Young people are prone to seek professional qualification to give functionality to the equipment provided by PROINF for collective use. But in general, PROINF action proposals in Alagoas treat young people as “invisible”. Of the 72 municipalities that make up the six TC's Alagoas, only the municipality of Palmeira dos Índios of the TC do Agreste presented, in 2010, a PROINF project proposal in the line of professional training aimed at young people. This mismatch between infrastructures and services can lead to the search for knowledge and, consequently, the departure of young people from the countryside
