We carried out an analysis of the provision of housing in the informal perspective in the Metropolitan Region of Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, as a process that historically involves strategies of the poorest population in search of housing, highlighting that its existence is related to real estate speculation, the lack of infrastructure, and the peripheralization of the population, emerging as a response to the need for housing in less valued spaces, characteristics that justify this study that reflects healthy urban planning. The objective seeks to demonstrate these forms of housing provision and the consequences for those who live there, since, in general, they are populations with precarious socioeconomic conditions, with the aggravating factor that many agglomerates have a high density of buildings, facilitating the spread of diseases. We understand that the area under study harbors a logic that historically involves the forms and strategies of poor communities in their struggle for housing, when they find alternatives in informal construction on public or private land. Their location occurs on land neglected by the protocol market, being in environmentally fragile areas of cities. The provision of housing is conditioned to the absence of a policy for the needy population, outside the formal real estate market defined by the capitalist system, forcing the occupation of fragile areas.
