Media approach of the sixth IPCC assessment report on climate change

With the publication of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the IPCC, new data and future perspectives regarding climate change and its impacts were portrayed and disseminated by the world's media in different ways. Thus, the main objective of this research was to analyze and discuss the media approach in relation to AR6. An analysis was carried out in the digital newspapers A Folha de São Paulo (FSP) and O Estado de São Paulo (ESTADÃO), to verify the treatment of information related to the AR6. From the data collection, as well as the definition of categories for analysis of journalistic texts, it was possible to elaborate visual elements (graphs/tables) and textual clippings that allowed the understanding of the information conveyed on the subject. The results show the approach to the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change. There is a lack of articles in prominent sections in newspapers, in which the media in general should focus on the topic. It was observed that the repercussion of the AR6 was greater in the month of its publication and that the media fulfills the role, with different degrees of emphasis and depth, of promoting society's contact with a scientific topic as complex as climate change.
