Analysis of rainfall in the municipality of Serra Talhada-PE and determination of the equation of intense rainfall through probabilistic distribution

The understanding of the maximum rainfall in a municipality is used, among other aspects, in the design of urban drainage systems, in hydraulic engineering projects and in the study of alternatives to reduce the impacts caused by heavy rains. One of the methods for calculating these rains is due to the determination of parameters of the Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) equation, through the treatment of rainfall data making use of Gumbel probabilistic distribution. The municipality of Serra Talhada, located in the hinter country of Pernambuco, is bathed by the Pajeú River that has a floodplain that covers an area of the commercial zone of the city, which contributes to the damage caused when heavy rains occur, thus, the objective of this work is to determine the parameters of the IDF equation, capable of calculating heavy rainfall for return periods between 2 and 100 years. For this, a historical series of 50 years of rainfall data was used, where the parameter values were determined using the rain disaggregation method. The results found were k=989.995; m=0.2075; n=0.7847 and b=14.4. Thus, the equation obtained in this work has high reliability for determining the intense rains agreed with different return periods.References
