Abstract

The families who live near the mining companies suffer with their actions, the removal of rocks, causes explosions, moving the soil with vibration of the terrain. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify the effects of mineral exploration on the landscape in three areas of the irrigated perimeters of the municipality of Petrolina in Pernambuco. To this end, a literature review was conducted on topics related to mining, landscape, impacts of mining, through literature review, which is a qualitative research. The results show impacts on the landscape caused by open pit mining, namely: soil degradation, loss of vegetation, and soil contamination by grease and diesel oil. It is concluded that mining in the Brazilian semi-arid region is unsustainable, causing the expropriation of communities around the enterprises. Therefore, future studies are necessary to investigate the perception of communities and the degree of severity of the impact on the landscape caused by mining exploration.
