Analysis of structural features in the drainage network of the central sector of the Araucárias Plateau

Aiming to provide contributions on how tectonic and lithological processes influenced the morphology of the relief in the central sector of the Araucárias Plateau, based on a drainage map on a scale of 1:50,000, an analysis of drainage patterns, anomalies, faults/fractures and inferred faults was conducted. This analysis demonstrated that the NW-SE structural orientation is predominant in the study area, with trains between N 40-70 W standing out, indicating the existence of main structural directions in the area. A significant correlation was also observed between the subsurface structural lineaments (magnetic lineaments) and the surface lineaments (faults/fractures and inferred faults). The existence of sectors of the drainage network with rectangular, parallel and ring patterns is linked to specific structural and tectonic conditions, such as faults and joints in the rocks. Such patterns are important indicators of the role of tectonics in the evolution of the landscape, as well as the existence of anomalous curves and drainage elbows correlated with structural lineaments, which suggest neotectonic activity in the study area.
