Geoarchaeology is the branch of Archaeology that examines the relationship between humans and their physical-natural environment. From this perspective, a range of approaches can be employed to understand the world of the past. Among these, geochemical research stands out for its role in analyzing the chemical components of crustal rocks, chemical alteration in soil profiles and sedimentary deposits, and landscape evolution. This study aims to demonstrate the applications of this perspective in Archaeological Science, particularly in paleoenvironmental reconstructions and landscape formation models. Two distinct archaeological areas—Morro do Chapéu (BA) and the Carnaúba River Basin (RN/PB)—were analyzed through a geochemical approach, utilizing two vertical sections: one colluvial and the other fluvial. Research conducted in Morro do Chapéu proposed evolutionary models influenced by climatic, geomorphological, and sedimentological factors. Geochemical analyses revealed a complex evolution marked by intense chemical alterations, deposition of mature sediments, and pedogenetic stabilization. The elevated terrain facilitated moisture retention, enabling the development of deep weathering mantles even in semi-arid climates, with ferruginous lateritic horizons. Deposits from the Carnaúba River reflect a semi-arid regime with seasonal high-energy pulses associated with a braided channel system and transport condition variability driven by climatic seasonality. This multidisciplinary integration provides valuable insights into the evolution of semi-arid landscapes and their relationship with human occupations, offering a critical framework for reconstructing climatic and environmental dynamics in tropical contexts.
