Relations and working conditions in mineral extraction for the construction industry in Areia Branca, Campo do Brito and Itabaiana, Sergipe

This article is part of the results of a master's degree research project that studied working relations and conditions in mineral extraction for the construction industry in the municipalities of Areia Branca, Campo do Brito and Itabaiana, in the central Agreste region of Sergipe. The investigation into the reality of mineral extraction workers was based on an analysis of the totality and multideterminations that define the social relations that impose precarious working conditions on this productive sector. The methodological approach adopted was qualitative research. The methodological procedures included a primary and secondary bibliographic survey, fieldwork with semi-structured interviews, photographic records and field notes. The results show that work in mineral extraction for civil construction in the study area is marked by precarious conditions and clientelistic and paternalistic relationships, which demonstrate the extent to which mineral extraction workers are subjected to exploitation of their labor.
