This article analyzes how the process of occupation, settlement and formation of urban centers in the west of Goiás took place. The narrative sought to emphasize the context of occupation and the factors that contributed to the settlement of the region in the 18th and 19th centuries. The consultation and dialogue with historical, documental and bibliographic sources allowed us to reach the conclusion that the mining started along the Vermelho and Claro rivers formed the first urban centers, therefore, with the decline of this activity, new occupation processes occurred motivated by processes migration, concession of vacant lands, agro-pastoral activity and formed new nucleations.
