Abstract

The work reviews text referring to the discursive experiences of the Portuguese Colonial Empire. The imperial discourse, in the face of changes in global geopolitical conjunctures or frameworks and in Portugal's internal conditions, changes over time. The relations of this discourse with the ideas available during the Cold War are exposed and the idea of a Luso-tropical world with a Freyrian base (G. Freyre) and the construction of the myth of a poor, but imperial and proud Lisbon are examined. The text explores Portugal's identity experience in the face of the end of its empire.
