Identification of landscape units in the municipality of Currais Novos – RN: a focus on geotope delimitation

Abstract

There is a lack of studies on the subject of geotopes in the Brazilian Northeast Region, and studies can be found focused on larger taxonomic landscape units, such as geocomplexes and geofaces. In this sense, the aforementioned work has the purpose of presenting a proposal for mapping geotopes, in addition to providing a brief explanation of the dynamics of the identified landscape units, which is of great relevance for the restructuring of the master plan for urban development in the municipality of Currais Novos due to the scale of detail used. The methodological procedures consisted of bibliographical research referent geofaces and geotopes, the landscape units studied were delimited based on geomorphological aspects and their relationship with use and occupation with vegetation cover. Were identified 5 geofacies and 16 geotopes. The geotopes predominate in the headquarters consist of those marked by the direct influence of human actions, classes referring to urbanized areas, agricultural activities that account for more than sixty percent of the headquarters. On the other hand, the geotopes that suffer less impact from human actions consist of those that refer to the arboreal stratum and, in turn, have less predominance in the studied area, being the shrubby caatinga, degraded caatinga and secondary vegetation.
