Karst environments stand out from other natural environments due to their unique and peculiar nature. These environments are naturally sensitive to contamination, both anthropogenic and natural, making them vulnerable due to their intrinsic characteristics. These particularities often hinder the application of certain methodologies for the study and mapping of karst vulnerability. Various methodological approaches have been proposed and adapted to assess karst vulnerability worldwide. An example is the COP method, employed in this study to determine the precipitation factor (Factor P) in the upper course of the Corrente River Basin, located in the northeast of Goiás State. This method, combined with GIS technological procedures in a geoprocessing environment, was used to generate the isohyets map of the study area. Using precipitation data provided by the Hidroweb website of the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA) Hidroweb website, covering the period from 2015 to 2020, it was possible to calculate the precipitation factor (Factor P) for the study area. The result obtained indicated that the basin is subject to high vulnerability, with a precipitation protection index of 0.6. According to the COP methodology, this index suggests a significant reduction in the protection offered by the precipitation factor, indicating a trend towards an increase in the intrinsic vulnerability of the investigated karst environment.
