ESPACIALIZAÇÃO DO USO DA VEGETAÇÃO NATIVA NO SEMI-ÁRIDO NORDESTINO
Abstract
O semi-árido possui uma grande diversidade de flora, com mais de 1000 espécies, incluindo 300 endêmicas. Em mais da metade da região, a vegetação nativa foi substituída por agricultura e pastos cultivados, restando ainda áreas grandes na Bahia, Piauí e Ceará, enquanto na Paraíba, Alagoas e Sergipe as áreas são pequenas. A quase totalidade das áreas de vegetação nativa é usada como pastagem nativa. Alem deste uso, não quantificado, a produção de lenha (40 a 100 m3/ha ou estéreo/ha) e carvão é a mais importante contribuição do extrativismo no Nordeste (cerca de R$65 milhões). O extrativismo com coleta de plantas isoladas tem um valor baixo e a maioria dos produtos vem de poucas áreas. Ele pode ser dividido pelo tipo de produto fornecido: 1) óleos fixos; 2) ceras, látex e produtos químicos; 3) fibras; 4) alimentos; 5) óleos essenciais; 6) medicinais; e 7) madeiras. Entre as produtoras de óleo fixo, o licuri (R$0,5 milhões) é explorado quase que exclusivamente na Bahia e a oiticica no Ceará e Rio Grande do Norte. A cera de carnaúba (R$12 milhões) vem dos vales inundáveis do Ceará, Piauí e Rio Grande do Norte. O tanino das cascas de angico vem da Bahia e de Pernambuco. Caroá é a principal planta nativa produtora de fibras, predominantemente no Ceará. Umbu é a mais importante fruteira (R$2 milhões), típica da caatinga da Bahia, Pernambuco e Paraíba, enquanto mangaba e murici predominam em locais arenosos e pitomba é disseminada em todos os estados. Óleos essenciais, apesar de bem estudados, não são explorados. Centenas de espécies medicinais são usadas, mas de poucas há comprovação científica dos efeitos. A produção de madeira, exceto para lenha, carvão e estacas, é muito baixa. A de estacas é bastante disseminada em todo o semi-árido, mas ocorre principalmente no Ceará.Downloads
