POTENCIAL DOS GEOPARQUES COMO ESTRATÉGIA DE GEOCONSERVAÇÃO NO ESTADO DO PIAUÍ
Abstract
Desde a Conferência de Marlvern sobre Conservação Geológica e Paisagística, em 1993, vários projetos e eventos foram desenvolvidos, em diversos países, visando a proteção do patrimônio geológico; neste contexto surgiram os geoparques, regiões com limites bem definidos, com um número de sítios do patrimônio geológico-paleontológico de importância científica, raridade ou beleza, não apenas por razões geológicas, mas em virtude de valor arqueológico, ecológico, histórico ou cultural. O objetivo do trabalho é fazer uma análise da importância da geoconservação e como os geoparques podem contribuir para valorização de áreas potenciais assim como fazer uma breve apresentação das áreas do estado do Piauí indicadas pelo Serviço Geológico do Brasil (CPRM) como detentoras de potencial para a criação de geoparques: o Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara e o Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades. A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa de gabinete sobre o trinômio e sobre o parque em livros, artigos, revistas e na internet e pesquisa de campo. Uma importante contribuição foi a participação na pesquisa e produção do Relatório Geoparque de Sete Cidades da CPRM.
