Abstract

The main objective of this work is to investigate the functionalities and fragilities of public policies and actions linked to the service of the Military Police in an internal border area, which we call the border region of Alto Oeste Potiguar, located between the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba and Ceara. With that aim, theoretical-conceptual surveys were carried out on borders and on the region of Alto Oeste Potiguar, surveys of statistical data of police occurrences that the Military Police - RN attends in the region, in addition to interviews with representatives of the aforementioned agency, located in the municipality of Pau dos Ferros-RN. The results showed that, due to the Alto Oeste Potiguar region being located far from the large urban centers, the services provided by the state apparatus in Pau dos Ferros are important for society throughout the region, but still insufficient to meet the demands of the entire region. its population.
