Analysis of phytosociological parameters and spatial distribution of Cenostigma pyramidale (Tul.) E. Gagnon & G.P. Lewis in a regenerating stratum of a riparian forest in the semi-arid region of paraíba

This study aimed to evaluate the structure associated with the spatial distribution patterns of regenerating young specimens of “catingueira” (Cenostigma pyramidale (Tul.) E. Gagnon & G.P. Lewis) in a riparian system in the Western Cariri of Paraíba. The research was carried out in the riparian forest of the Umburana stream (7°45'15.3'' S and 36°58'01.6'' W; 571 m altitude), in the municipality of Sumé (Paraíba State). Fifty-one plots of 1.0 x 1.0 m were used to analyze all young woody specimens with height ≥ 0.05 m and DGL (diameter at ground level) < 3 cm. The frequency, density and height and diameter classes of regenerating young specimens were analyzed. Thirty species were sampled, which were distributed in 23 genera and 12 botanical families, in addition to four unidentified species. C. pyramidale stood out in the Umburana stream community, with 28 specimens and an absolute frequency of 45.10%. Regarding the height and diameter classes, the smallest class of both parameters was the most prominent. The studied species showed a reverse J-shape in its diametric distribution, with 60.71% of specimens in the first class (0.01 to 0.50 cm). Therefore, the data generated are important information about the structural aspects of the studied population, thus subsidizing its conservation in natural systems in the Brazilian semi-arid region.
