Morphosedimentary attributes and land use in the concentration of heavy metals in the Aroa River basin, Venezuela

Geomorphology studies the natural space configuration on which man develops or plans to use the land. The main objective was to determine the relationship between fluvial morphosedimentary attributes with the concentration of heavy metals (HM) present in the Aroa River basin, with emphasis on the granulometric characteristics of the river bottom sediments. To do this, it was necessary to characterize the geological, geomorphological and land use conditions of the Aroa River basin that favor the presence of heavy metals in the bottom sediments. In most of the sampled areas, land use has little relevance to HM concentrations, with the exception of cadmium, vanadium and nickel. This study serves as a tool for mining exploration in alluvial environments, which would significantly reduce the environmental impact.
