O problema micro-macro na sociologia: contribuições da filosofia da mente

O artigo propõe um balanço crítico-analítico da incorporação de problemas e conceitos da filosofia da mente no debate entre holismo e individualismo metodológicos na teoria social contemporânea. Adotando o esquema de múltiplos níveis (macro-micro-macro) como modelo meta-teórico, demonstra-se de que forma os conceitos de “redução”, “superveniência”, “emergência” e “realizações múltiplas” vêm sendo mobilizados para reforçar diferentes posições teóricas neste debate. Após determinar o estatuto lógico-epistemológico destes conceitos e esclarecer seu papel nos debates da teoria social, argumenta-se que, apesar de certa ambiguidade e ambivalência em seu uso, eles permitiram à teoria sociológica aprofundar e especificar com maior grau de detalhe as complexas implicações teóricas da relação entre os níveis micro e macro de análise do social. Além de uma terminologia técnica compartilhada, eles também viabilizaram uma maior aproximação entre as posições rivais, afastando as concepções extremas e reforçando as posições moderadas (tanto do individualismo quanto do holismo). Apesar disso, eles ainda oferecem resultados insuficientes para fundamentar uma terceira posição que se encontre além da oposição entre reducionismo e anti-reducionismo.Referências
