The museum field underwent reconfigurations in its theoretical and practical assumptions, from the 1980s onwards, and allowed the insertion of new categories of museums such as the Garbage Museum, characters, objects, and collections. Inserted in this context, environmental art conceived as an ephemeral
art, in dialogue with new artistic movements, gave visibility to a wide range of works and artists such as Richard Long, the couple Christo and Jeanne Claude
and the Brazilian Vik Muniz, who made and make use of new compositions and
languages in his artistic work in non-traditional spaces. The work of artist Valdinei Marques, from the Trash Museum in Florianópolis (SC), is highlighted in dialogue with other artists who make use of discarded materials and objects from garbage to compose their artwork. Reformulations in the field of museums and
the field of heritage allow the waste of the consumer society to be reinterpreted and recognized as musealia in the Trash Museum. When the collection is no longer placed in an assessment that determines its degree of importance, everything
becomes museum-worthy, which is not without contradictions and practical and theoretical clashes.
