Karimbada: visualities and processes of network art

Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the visualities present in the Karimbada Magazine, a collaborative production edited by the artist Unhandeijara Lisboa in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, in the late 1970s. This collective publication explores the poetics of Mail Art and the universe of rubber stamps, bringing together prints from artists from different parts of the world. We intend to verify and reflect on the influences of the graphic tradition of the Northeast Region of Brazil, making a historical tour of the local context and the consolidation of the graphic industry in the region and its importance in the emergence of independent graphic publications in the first decades of the twentieth century and the reverberations of these actions in the artistic production of the second half of the 20th century. Finally, we will analyze the visualities and visual appropriations in the construction of this artist’s periodical and the developments that emerged from this proposition.
