Abstract

What the image says that the word does not: the artist existing in the work and non existent in the words. This article reflects on what is contained in the painting Suzana and the Old People, by Artemisia Gentileschi, a Renaissance artist, and in the photomontage Love without Illusion, by Grete Stern, a surrealist artist of the 20th century. Based on the in-depth studies of theorists such as George Didi-Huberman, Walter Benjamin, Aby Warburg and on the research of historical contents in the images of the artist Victor Meirelles, carried out by Professor Mara Rubia Sant’Anna, which resulted in the work O jovem Victor Meirelles: tempos, trajes e traços, about what images can tell us, in addition to their representative superficiality. The tangent looks at these images that permeate the historical chronology and reach us imbued with sensory information, revealing the surroundings and intervals, not immediately observed.
