Torto Arado and the second person perspective

Abstract

This paper have as main purpose, based on theplot of Torto Arado, to study the relevance of a second-person perspective for understanding the mental. Starting from the aforementioned novel, we approach the first and third    person    perspectives,    identifying,    ahead,    the    second    person perspective,   together   with   its   relevance   in   the   explanation   of   the communication that occurs between the characters of the novel. These first two  steps  are  relevant  to  make  it  possible  to  perceive  the  differences  and similarities  between  each  of  the  perspectives  and  to  highlight  the  way  in which Torto   Aradodemonstrates   the   centrality   of   the   second-person perspective. In the final part of the paper, it is argued that the second-person perspective is the only one that allows an explanation for all forms of human communication because, among  other  factors,  it  is the  basis of  a complex and  articulated  language,  as  well  it  admits  the  possibility  of  knowing  the mental  states  of  other  people  directly,  without  the  need  to  resort  to simulations or interpretations inside our minds.
