Abstract

Artists know that life is continuous birth, astonishment and movement. The creative process takes place on the threshold between the intention to create and letting it happen, between action and receptivity, between desire and surrender. Artists live in awe because they are open to the world, because, like indigenous peoples and quilombolas, they know that vulnerability is also strength, vital energy, the possibility of connecting with beings and the world. In this article, I present part of my research trajectory, which culminated in my doctoral thesis “Dissident bodies and art collectives: appearance, creation and politics of life” (PPGICH/UFSC); a non-linear trajectory, crossed by the oneiric dimension and proximity to death. I understand death here as something concrete and also metaphorical, as the end of life and the end of a cycle, as transformation and new beginnings.  Magic, mystery and apparition guide the paths of the field and the writing, producing embodied (Wacquant, 2015), ritualistic, singular and collective knowledge.
