Tropical Oceanography ISSN print 1679-3005) is the successor to Trabalhos do Instituto de Biologia Marítima e Oceanografia, a journal of the Departamento de Oceanografia from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil. See below the historical view of Tropical Oceanography.

The journal publishes, biannualy, original research papers, reviews and scientific contributions concerning all aspects of oceanography (biological, chemical, geological and physical) and marine research. A wide range of topics is discussed with emphasis on articles of an interdisciplinary nature and of general interest in the oceanography and related fields.

The journal Tropical Oceanography (Trop. Oceanogr. abbreviation) provides open access to articles published through its web site. Currently, the journal has more than 500 published articles available for free download. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically (“New submission”) and Guidelines for Authors must be strictly followed.

The members of the Editorial Board act as scientific editors of submitted papers related to their field of expertise, evaluating critically the scientific merits of the manuscripts. To contact Editor-in-chief, please send an email to contato.tropicaloceanography@gmail.com.

 

History

The first volume was published in 1959 under the name Trabalhos do Instituto de Biologia Marítima e Oceanografia (Institute of Maritime Biology and Oceanography Works). Later the journal had several denominations until acquiring its current title, Tropical Oceanography, in 2001:

  • Trabalhos do Instituto de Biologia Marítima e Oceanografia (1959)
  • Trabalhos do Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade do Recife (1960-1962)
  • Trabalhos do Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1963-1966)
  • Trabalhos Oceanográficos da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1967-2000)
  • Tropical Oceanography (2001-)      

Until 2001 only the printed edition existed (ISBN: 1679-3005) then the journal has changed to online edition (ISSN: 1679- 3013) in order to share knowledge and achieve international ranking, for both journal and authors. Since the first issue of volume 33 (in 2005), the printed edition was suppressed, but all former published articles may be freely accessed.
