O Professor José Luiz Mota Menezes, graduado em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco em 1961, obteve título de Livre-docência pela mesma Universidade em 1977. Como professor do Departamento de Arquitetura e Urbanismo foi coordenador da área de Artes desde 1972 até 1985. Desde então é professor aposentado. Em 2003 recebeu a honraria de Professor Emérito da UFPE. Dedica-se a pesquisa de temas relacionados à história da arquitetura, arqueologia e história das artes.
