O SÍTIO CEMITÉRIO FURNA DOS OSSOS EM SANTANA DO MATOS-RN: Estudos Preliminares dos Restos Osteológicos Humanos Encontrados em Superfície

Este artigo apresenta os resultados das análises realizadas nos remanescentes ósseos humanoscoletadosno sítio arqueológico Furna dos Ossos, localizado no município de Santana do Matos – RN. O sítio é uma furna que dispunha em sua superfície de ossos humanos que, devido às ações antrópicas e bioturbação, estavam descontextualizados e se degradando rapidamente. A partir de um projeto acadêmico de escavação, os ossos foram coletados e levados para o laboratório de arqueologia da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba onde foram estudados. Para essa análise se buscou estabelecer o número mínimo de indivíduos, estimar a idade à morte, determinar sexo, e identificar remodelações ósseas por doença, trauma e anomalias. Os resultados indicam um número mínimo de oito indivíduos, entre adultos e subadultos, não sendo possível a diagnose sexual. Observou-se a presença de cribra umeralis em um úmero de indivíduo jovem, além da presença de ossos de crianças pintados com pigmento vermelho, provavelmente óxido de ferro.
THE FURNA DOS OSSOS CEMETERY IN SANTANA DO MATOS-RN: Preliminary Studies of Human Osteological Remains Found in Surface
ABSTRACT
This paper presents the results of the analyzes carried out on human bone remains, collected at the Furna dos Ossos archaeological site, located in the municipality of Santana do Matos – RN. The site is a cave, where on it’s surface there where human bones that, due to anthropic actions an bioturbation, were descontextualized and degrading rapidly. From an academic excavation project, the bones were collected and taken to the laboratory of archaeology the State University of Paraíba where they were analyzed. For this analysis, it was searched to establish the minimum number of individuals, to estimate age at death, to determine sex, and to indentify bones remodeled by diseases, traumas and anomalies. The results indicate a minimum number of eight individuals, between adults and subadults, the sexual diagnosis was not possible. It was observed the presence of cribra humeralis in a humerus of a young individual, besides the presence of children's bones painted with red pigment, probably iron oxide.
