SANTANA DO MATOS, RIO GRANDE DO NORTE: A rock painting recovered from the waters
ABSTRACT
From a drawing originally made in 1927 by the farmer José de Azevedo Dantas, it was possible to reconstitute graphically, in 2017, a panel of cave paintings in the archaeological site Pinturas, located in the municipality of Santana do Matos, State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, that had been almost totally destroyed by the action of the waters, coming from a dam built in 1951 near the rocky support containing the paintings. The reconstitution assisted in the preservation of the graphic memory and evidenced the presence of pictorial characteristics of the Agreste Tradition and also of the Nordeste Tradition, Seridó Subtradition.
Keywords: Preservation of memory - Graphical reconstitution - Nordeste Tradition, Seridó Subtradition.
