This article aims to present the results of the archaeological activities carried out to unveil the Pedra de Retumba, in the municipality of Pedra Lavrada, Paraíba, which had long since disappeared. This magnificent archaeological site of rock art, drawn by the engineer Francisco Retumba in 1886 and mentioned in numerous publications in the last (20th) century, ended up becoming one of the great myths of Brazilian archeology. This site was completely uncovered in the course of three rescue campaigns, disclosing alongside with it, in addition to hundreds of rupestrian engravings, part of the forgotten history about the municipality of Pedra Lavrada, Paraíba.
