Abstract

Expanded summary of the Doctoral Thesis. Research carried out over 15 years at two Architecture faculties in Recife, ESUDA and FAUPE. The students collected specimens in 40 neighborhoods in Recife and the author set up a database with 683 buildings with different functions. The Art Deco style is also present in urban furniture, such as benches, pedestals for statues and clocks, fountains, etc. The examples were studied based on the existing cataloging in the country, with 3 variants of Art Deco: the Frenched, the Escalonada and the Streamline. But the production found in the city of Recife was not suitable for this. The author proposed two more variants, the Mestiça and the Hybrid. They are erudite and popular works, made by architects, engineers, designers and anonymous people and cover all social classes.
