Universal design and architectural accessibility: conceptualizations, distinctions and approaches

This work presents a reflection on the Universal Design and Architectural Accessibility concepts as being independent while complementing each other and being fundamental for the consolidation of the process of social inclusion in urban spaces. We present the base texts for this reflection, the consonant and dissonant points of the aforementioned concepts, as well as how their bases of action are commonly based. In this way, we understand that the architectural project assumes based on the principles of Universal Design, constitutes, in addition to its technical characteristics and relevance, an important social instrument of inclusion and discussion about the right to use and permanence in urban spaces and equipment by the subjects who in these, wish or need to be inserted.
